My music

If you want to listen then there are many ways ! YouTube is the best way, as it contains all of my music for free. There are links below to Spotify and and Music stores like Amazon and Apple Music, or you can click the Merch link above to buy a physical CD. I never write about me or my family, unless it's general. Songs are what people want them to be about. Here's my interpretation as to what the songs are about;

Change Up!

Songs from my third album

This album was written and produced in a very different way from the other two; Its more piano/keyboard-centric than the other two guitar-centric albums. I wrote around 24 songs, recorded them all to demo standard and then decided with ones were going on the album. i then produced and mastered the album myself - something I had not done before, I had always sent the album away for mastering. I am immensely proud of this album and how it sounds.

Change Up!

The title song from my third album. I love listening to driving music, so I wrote a couple for this album. This track is about a guy who wakes up to find a Dear John letter from his wife. He makes the decision to go after her in his GTO and try to catch her up before she gets to her parents house.

Lonely Driver

More driving music, but this one has a real feel of driving on a freeway. It's got a bit of a Country Music feel to it, a lone female truck driver, just her and the road, she loves the life.

Philomena and The Fan

Possibly my favourite track from the album ( Almost the title track, as the working title for the album was "Standing at the bus-stop" ). My tale of how an obsessed fan cannot understand why his idol doesn’t see him in the crowd and want to be with him.
All the video is from the absolutely brilliant Cottonbro Studios. So much of their work seems to go with my music.

I wanna be like you

We've all been there, not happy with who we are, we always know someone who seems to have the perfect life. Good at their job, in a great relationship, they always seem to have money, or a new car and we want to be just like them. Just remember, they probably feel the same way. The grass is always greener on the other side. Just be yourself, the best you can be.

The Love Blues

Can't help myself. Another love song for another Valentines Day

Its Not Too Late

I try not to be political, but we've only got one planet, can we look after it ? Its not too late to save it.

The Spice of Life

Love. Its the Spice of Life. Plain and simple.

Always in my dreams

When that person you are trying to forget about, appears night after night, in your dreams ...
I love the way the guitar solo in this came out, with some gorgeous echo, almost sounds like two people playing

Little Miss Blue-Eyes

Song about a little blue-eyed girl who is always getting into trouble, no matter how old she is !

Times Ticking Away

Alright, this one is a little about me ... Suddenly, you find you are getting old, never bothered you before but there it is. The answer ? Live life to the full.
A surprise listeners favourite from the album, which is odd because it nearly didn't make the cut !

Machinery

My homage to the Pet Shop Boys. I was in the studio one day and just found that all the technology in there can be so overwhelming. But so cool once you understand how to use it.

We Stand Together

This track is about pirates / raiders that are attacking a village, the only way to win, is to stand and fight together !
No video yet for this as I want to do the song justice. Coming soon.

Listening Through a Microscope

Songs from my second album

When producing an album, its like listening through a microscope

Of course, you don't listen through microscopes, but I got what he was saying; You have to drill right down almost to every note, over and over, make sure that everything fits perfectly and sounds great, no matter on which device its playing on.

Sometimes You Have To Walk Away

The song is about when you really want something, or someone, but, for whatever reason, you can't have it. So it's best not to throw a tantrum, pout or shout but to simply walk away. The song isn't atypical of the album but it is more my style. It's the opening track on my second album and, despite it having absolutely no percussion, I think it's the strongest

Selfie Girl

I was on holiday in Bruges and whilst in a street café in the square (Café Des Artes) I noticed this girl on the next table. She was with her family but was completely engrossed in taking selfies. At first I thought that she was being rude and selfish to her family, but then I started to think maybe she was missing her partner. I guess you never really know the whole story just by watching and judging ...
I wanted this song to have a catchy hook, which I think I achieved!
All the shots of a girl in this video are filmed by the brilliant Anastasia Shuraeva from Pexels

He’s The Carnival Man

In 2018 I was lucky enough to play at the Paignton Festival, the Chairman of which is one Mike Bailey who works tirelessly to bring this Festival to the pepole of Paignton every year. This song is about him but also about any Fairground / Carnival folk that have to put on these big shows temporarily. I absolutely love the sound of the harmonica and guitar in this, both played by me ( but not at the same time).

Sweet Sunny Morning (Feel the Rush)

I wanted to write a fun summer song. With a Kate Wild sample kicking the chorus, I think this pops nicely ! The video was filmed in Spain with me being silly but does have a nice vintage TV effect. Although on the day of filming, it wasn't sunny ! Listen out for a homage to my first album in the opening sequence

Take Me To The Beach

I wanted write a surfing song as I'm a huge fan of The Beach Boys. Take me away from the ratrace and to the beach !

That’s Another One

That's Another One is about all my musical heroes I was losing at the time. This was 2016. Little did I know that it was going to get worse.
Most of all, it was about losing Rick Parfitt. I had been to see Quo several times live and was devastated when he died. The greatest rhythm guitar player of all time in my opinion. This song is for all of them, may they rest in (very loud) peace.

Little White Horses

I wrote this song whilst on a cruise in rough(ish) sea. I'd heard that small waves were called little white horses and I started to wonder if they were actually a metaphor to barriers in life and whether they could each be a life choice in some way. As you complete things in life you smash through them ... just a thought and now, a rock song.

You Know He Thinks He’s a Gambler

I love to write country songs, but they are the hardest to write. Difficult to avoid all the "Trucks, trains and cowboy cliches" and here is one right here ... About a guy who thinks he's a bit of player, but it appears he's just a loner with gambling problem whose girl has left him. I love the special effects in this promo.

She’s My Girl

Guy is born, Guy grows up, Guy meets girl, Guy marries girl.
Did I say I was trying to avoid cliches ? Photo by RF._.studio from Pexels

The Games People Play

Purely about the mind games that some people like to play. Just come out and tell it straight !

Maybe Tomorrow

Songs from my first album

Maybe Tomorrow CD Cover

Rolling Out Cigarettes

The only thing me and Paul McCartney have in common, I actually dreamed this song - melody and all ! It's about teenagers smoking and drinking in the back yard

Maybe Tomorrow

The title track from the album and still one of my favorites to play, I got the story from an Agony aunt problem page in the dentists waiting room. Its a story about a woman who wants to leave her partner, but finds that there's always some reason to stay, like the kids birthday, holidays or Christmas. There's always tomorrow eh ?

Forever Love

Written for Valentines Day, who is your Forever Love?

Empty Places

I visited Levant Tin Mines in Cornwall and stayed in a former miners cottage. The local pub (The North Inn) had pictures on the wall of some of the miners. I thought that this was nice, as otherwise, these miners faces would be forgotten. Walking around the mines is strikingly quiet and eerie, and so this song is about those forgotten faces and those empty places.

Champagne Dreams

I was on holiday and whilst sitting in the sun, sipping champagne (not my normal lifestyle) I started wondering about all the places that I'd like to see but whether I would have enough time or money to do so, or was it just the champagne talking ?

Drive The Five

I wanted to write a Country Song and this was the result (and also the reason Amazon thinks I'm a Country artist....). It's about a guy who owes Those Medford Boys some gambling debts and is trying to leave Medford via Interstate 5. But he's gonna need a fast car ....

Portabello

Not Portobello Rd in London, but Portobello in Edinburgh. I stayed there and the people were so nice to me, so I wrote this song. I apologise for the Mockney accent, I was trying to appeal to the USA at the time ....

Flying High

It's about elation really, life isn't easy and sometimes, if you work at it, you can get what you want - the feeling is amazing

You Can't Undo Fame

Contrary to popular belief, this song is not about Tom Chaplin, but purely about something he said during an interview. When he left Keane to persue a solo career, he said that he didn't enjoy the fame that came with being in Keane - I just shouted at the radio - You can't undo fame mate ! Then I thought, actually that's true ( But you can let it fade I suppose)
